Globalization in every aspect of life
CLIMATE AND ENVIRONMENT
Uniting for a healthy climate and planet
The climate crisis connects us all. We need collective action and leadership from all to meet citizens and governments at every level, the public and private sector, NGOs and philanthropy. The United Foundation is committed to working with different partners to motivate this collective action required to meet the climate challenge. UF support communication and data collection from different sources about climate changes.
GENDER EQUALITY
Gender equality is fundamental to the achievement of human rights and is an aspiration that benefits all of society, including girls and women. The universal advantages of gender equality have been well-documented, and several international frameworks have affirmed its centrality to human rights and sustainable development. The Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, for example, unanimously adopted by 189 countries in 1995 and still the strongest global consensus for advancing and protecting girls’ and women’s equality and justice, recognizes that persistent inequalities pose “serious consequences for the well-being of all people.
Yet, despite the promise of equality, progress towards it has been slow, fragile, incremental, and reversible – and dramatically undermined by the COVID-19 pandemic. In fact, in every region of the world, girls and women are still more likely to be poor, illiterate, hungry, unhealthy, underrepresented in leadership positions, legally constrained, politically marginalized, and endangered by violence.
ENDING GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE
In partnership with the Spotlight Initiative, the United Foundation has established a funding vehicle — the WithHer Fund — which provides resources directly to grassroots women’s organizations around the world working to end gender-based violence in their local communities.
GLOBAL HEALTH
Healthy families are the foundation for healthy communities, and through the Sustainable Development Goals, the world has made a promise of universal health coverage and health for all.
Yet each year, more than 5.2 million children under age 5 die from preventable causes, and over 800 women and adolescent girls die due to complications during pregnancy and childbirth every day. Since our founding, the United Foundation has worked to support the World Health Organization, UN agencies, and partners that deliver vital services to improve health globally and forge new and dynamic partnerships for health.
We also work to anticipate emerging health challenges like pandemic preparedness and antimicrobial resistance, as well as health security.
Achieving health equity and reaching the most vulnerable must remain at the center of our efforts. We must #UniteForHealth to deliver on the SDGs.
DATA AND TECHNOLOGY
Advances in data and technology offer enormous opportunities to improve people’s lives, yet the dizzying pace and scale of change pose challenges and risks that must be addressed.
The United Foundation works with the UF and a diverse community of partners to increase and improve data and the impact of technology on sustainable development, and promote cooperation in the digital age.
The United Foundation hosts several partnerships and platforms that convene UF agencies, governments, civil society, academics, and the private sector to support the collection and use of data and technology for sustainable development. See some of what we’re up to:
The Global Partnership for Sustainable Development Data helps stakeholders across countries and sectors fully harness the data revolution for sustainable development, using this new knowledge to improve lives and protect the planet.
UF vision is of a world where services can safely reach everyone, everywhere using the power of digital technology and data. Our mission is to overcome the systemic barriers preventing digital solutions from going to scale.
INITIATIVES
We invest early in action-oriented ideas and give them a chance to take root, thrive and scale up. We were one of the first to pioneer innovative public-private partnerships. Today we support initiatives that work with the UF and partners to achieve impact at scale on the SDGs, climate change, and major collective challenges. We are home to a series of successful organizations and initiatives, either created or hosted by us, that have their own identity but that work as part of the United Foundation family.
COMMUNITIES
We build durable constituencies of support across countries, communities, and causes because the challenges we face can only be solved together. We were among the earliest to bring the private sector, citizens, and governments together for greater impact. From young activists to corporate executives, from journalists to policymakers, from nonprofit leaders to celebrity influencers, we’ve grown a community of almost two million people who are changing the world.
